Today Russia, Botswana, Australia and Congo are the major diamond producers. Virtually all all diamonds enter the US by way of Antwerp, in the Netherlands, which is a major hub of diamond trading. Interestingly, one company, De Beers, holds a virtually monopoly on this trade and almost all commercially traded diamonds pass through their hands.

The majority of the world’s diamonds come from Russia, Africa, and Canada. Once mined, they are distributed throughout the world to the top diamond manufacturing cities like New York, Antwerp, Mumbai, Tel Aviv, and Hong Kong.
